October 2, 2006- Child Advocates graduates 10 Wichita Falls CASA Volunteers
Child Advocates was blessed to have 10 new volunteers complete 30 hours of training in September. It was refreshing to work with the group as their enthusiasm and excitement was overwelming. Judge Sons graced us with her presence performing the swearing in ceremony in our new office. The new volunteer class included: Audrey Andress, William Bone, Kristie Howard, Brenda King, Veronica Jackson, LaCresa Palmer, Eileen Taylor, Beverly Webb, Byron Webb, and Barbara Westmoreland. We are glad they have joined us in the fight against child abuse!

August 21, 2006- We've Moved! -- Come Visit us at 808 Austin
It's official! Thanks to 13 strong volunteers and a committed staff we were able to move last Friday and Saturday. The construction is not done on the new building, but in an effort to save money, we have decided to work out of half the building for the time being. Our new address is: 808 Austin; Wichita Falls, TX 76301. We are just a few blocks from our old location. The 800 block of Austin is between 8th Street & 9th Street downtown. We would love to have you come visit... as long as you don't mind a few boxes laying around! And eventually when all the construction is complete, we hope to host an open house.

August 12, 2006- Cowboys for CASA Event in Montague County
An extreme cowboy race was held by Cowboys for CASA on Saturday, August 12th. Child Advocates staff and volunteers attended the event at Circle G Ranch in Montague County. July 12, 2006- Child Advocates volunteers nominated for volunteer awards at Sheppard AFB
We were recently notified that back in April of 2006, Linda Jeter a CASA volunteer since June 2005, and DeJuan Wallace, a recent CASA graduate, were both nominated for the Sheppard Air Force Base Volunteer of the Year award in the civilian employee category. Previously, Linda Jeter was awarded the Air Force Volunteer Excellence award, an award only given once in a person's lifetime and a very high honor. Earlier this year DeJuan was named First Step Volunteer of the Year for his work with First Step. Congratulations to both DeJuan and Linda and thank you for all you do for our community.

June 15, 2006- Child Advocates to move into new building
Child Advocates was awarded a $300,000 grant by a long term supporter to fund the purchase of a new building. In March 2006, Child Advocates purchased a building at 808 Austin, currently the law office of True & Schrandt. The keys will be handed over in early July, and renovations will begin shortly thereafter. Alan Ballard, our executive director has been diligently working on renovation plans with the assistance of his brother who is an architect. Plans include changes to make the building handicap accessible, updates for the bathrooms and kitchen, as well as providing a second fire exit. Of great interest to the Child Advocates staff are the proposed renovations on the west end of the building, which would allow for a very large volunteer room for training and other activities. We are very excited for the big move!

June 14, 2006- Ray Dixon, a CASA volunteer, selected as Mental Health Technician of the Year

The response is the best thing I’ve experienced.”

May 31, 2006- New Child Advocates commercial on TV- Thanks to Wilson Office Supply
Mike Wilson, a former CASA volunteer and owner of Wilson Office Supply, paid to create and run a 30 second commercial recruiting new volunteers to Child Advocates. The commercial has been running on several different channels since the end of May and our staff has seen a significant increase in the number of calls from potential volunteers. We have been averaging at least one call a day and several interested applicants have even joined our current June Volunteer training in Wichita Falls. Child Advocates would like to thank Mike Wilson and Wilson Office Supply on 820 8th Street in Wichita Falls for their generosity in designing and funding the commercial.
