Every 8 1/2 minutes, a Child in Texas is abused or neglected

In 2006, 947 children in Archer, Clay, Montague and Wichita counties were removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect.

CHILD ADVOCATES 2006 STATISTICS
• Provided advocacy for 363 abused children in our four county region
• 312 of those children served last year were younger than 11 years old
• Trained 42 new volunteers
• Over 2500 hours were put in by volunteers in the 2006 fiscal year

• It costs Child Advocates $649.72 to serve one child
• Our annual budget is just under $300,000
• Child Advocates has 4 full-time Case Supervisors

LOCAL FACTS ON CHILD ABUSE
• In Wichita county 23.5 out of every 1000 children are confirmed victims of abuse or neglect, 2nd highest among urban counties in Texas, 2.4 times the state average.
• In Montague county 21.7 out of every 1000 children are confirmed victims of abuse or neglect, 2nd highest among rural counties in Texas, 2.2 times the state average.

NATIONAL FACTS ON CHILD ABUSE (based on most recent data available)
• An average of three children die every day in our nation as a result of abuse and neglect.
• 1500 children died in 2003 from abuse or neglect, 79% of them were under 4 years old.
• In 2003, there were 2.9 million referrals for abuse/neglect involving 5.5 million children.
• 3% of sexual abuse perpetrators were parents, 75% were friends or relatives.
